Dogs Will Have Their Day (in Santa Barbara)

(Republished from www.edhat.com)When it was announced last month that the annual Dog Parade (Santa Barbara Big Dog Parade) would be canceled this year, the dedicated staff of edhat.com got to work looking for an alternative. Of course, Edhat had an ulterior motive. We’ve been counting the number of dogs in the parade since 2004. This year, it seemed, we had nothing to count!

Well, lucky for us, we remembered that there is another Dog Event happening in late spring — the Dog Mile — one of the events in the State Street Mile. In past years, the Edhat Dog has run in this prestigious local canine extravaganza. In 2007, she got Third Place. In 2008, she got to run with a man wearing a purple tutu.

Last week, Edhat approached the organizers of the State Street Mile to see if they could add a non-running dog event to their popular race. They already have fast runs for different age groups, a very fast run for elite runners, and a not-so-fast family fun run.

Well, lucky for all, the State Street Mile organizers were very excited about our idea. And Edhat is happy to announce that we will be presenting the 2009 Platinum Performance Dog Mile on May 31, 2009. It’s a chance for you and your dog to dress up and stroll down State Street with a smile on your face, and your tails wagging behind you. Edhat will be awarding prizes for the best costumes.

There is a pre-race day discount for non-running dogs - available only on the edhat.com website (coming soon) prior to the day of the event. The fee for non-running dogs in the Dog Mile will be $15 without a State Street Mile t-shirt, and $20 with.

Same day registration fee for all dogs - running or not - will be $25 without a t-shirt and $30 with.

100% of the proceeds from the Dog Mile will go the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Assistance Program.
